Reclaimed Bridge Timber Mantel
Very heavy 8″ X 14″ beam removed from a Portland Oregon area bridge. Due to its size, added knee bracing was provided to each side which visually provided support. The supports were cut by slicing the 8 X 12 in half.
Due to the beam size, the fireplace stack above was set back from the face of the stone providing 14″ of shelf space above with only about 4″ of overhang on the rock face.
The great room setting was fairly large with 18′ ceiling heights.
The stove face included 5″ X 5″ wood buttons to enhance the arched fireplace box.
