Rustik Kreations Story

Jerry and Sheryl Martens, owners of the J T M Company, Inc. have been building homes in Washington State for more than 25 years. In 2000, we relocated to Cle Elum, Wa for the beauty and climate of the Central Washington mountain area. In building homes for this region, we sought to bring the natural beauty of the surrounding area into the designs and construction of our homes. We looked for products that would compliment and add character to our finished homes. Not finding products that met our needs from area suppliers, we realized that “if we want it we need to make it”. Thus, you have the beginnings of RustiK Kreations.

Early on, we salvaged logs from our own building site and re-incorporated unique pieces back into the finished home from where they came. As time progressed, our clientele asked for varieties and species of differing quality, size, texture and color. As the word got out, individuals from around the region would contact us asking if a blow down or storm damaged tree around their home would be of interest to us. Contractors in the area would let us know when they would be clearing a home site and could we use the timber products. Local loggers would provide old growth and fall off from finished logging projects.

Today, we have a variety of species that we are making finished product from. From the production of mantels we moved to paneling and siding with product fall off. Log ends and live edge pieces were turned into trim, paneling and siding for homes. Logs would be processed into mantels with the remaining material processed into slabs for shelving, tables and counter-tops. Today, very little raw material is lost as waste with most being processed into finished items.

Raw material we secure is stored and air cured prior to cutting. Once a log has cured sufficiently, we will cut into kants for further air drying. When enough moisture has been lost, the lumber will be cut into a rough sawn piece for additional air drying time. When a particular item is dried to 10% or less, we will re-cut and put the final finishing touches on.  This process can take many years from initial cutting to final product. Hardwoods will take much longer than softwoods.

You can see our products at a number of area outlets. Mantels are displayed at Thompson’s Hearth and Home in Issaquah, Fosseen’s Home and Hearth in Yakima and Ellensburg, Marenakos in Preston, Washington, Armstrongs Fireplace and Spa in Ellensburg and our newest display partner; Embellish Interiors & Gifts at 106 N Peoh Ave. in Cle Elum.

Look through our pictures and see if something appeals to you. Let us know and we will provide you with our current inventory items that are similar to the item you see. Please understand, each piece is it’s own unique “art piece” and can not be duplicated. They are Truly Unique Items.
